The Traits That Make Great Leaders so Inspiring

If you’ve been lucky enough to work for, or with, a great leader, odds are you remember exactly how that person made you feel. As poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou famously stated, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." With that in mind, the team here at Spiritti thought we’d outline a few of the traits that make great leaders truly inspiring.

They try to make other people grow. A great leader isn’t great because they know how to boss people around, they’re great because they know how to lift people up, and not in the Darth Vader sense!

They’re not afraid to face conflicts. Conflicts, unfortunately, are unavoidable. But facing those conflicts head-on rather than avoiding them is what separates the everyday leaders from the truly inspiring and effective ones.

They value safety. There’s a distinction to be made between safety and comfort here. If you feel comfortable under someone’s leadership, that could mean that you’re not being pushed hard enough. The great leaders, however, always ensure you feel safe even when pushed to the edge of where you’re comfortable.

They’re willing to listen to feedback. While some people have convictions that are set in stone, the truly inspiring leaders are the ones who can listen to and implement feedback when necessary or appropriate.
